Musa Nono Pink Banana Care Guide
Share
The Musa Nono Pink Banana is one of the rarest ornamental bananas you can get, and one look tells you why people hunt for it. Vivid pink variegation splashes across the stems and foliage — it's genuinely pink, not "pinkish if you squint." It's a fast grower like most bananas, so you don't wait long for the show.
Mine ship in a 3" pot. Young plants already show the pink coloring, and it intensifies as they size up. This is a collector plant that also happens to be a vigorous grower — the best combination.
Light
Bright light brings out the best pink variegation. It can take direct sun once acclimated, but introduce it gradually — the pink sections are more delicate than solid green leaf and can scorch if you go from shade to blazing sun overnight. Indoors, your brightest window.
Water
Water when the top inch of soil feels dry, and water deeply. Like all bananas, it's thirsty in the growing season. Consistent moisture with good drainage — never let the pot sit in water.
Humidity & Temperature
Loves warmth and humidity. Keep it above 65°F for active growth, and give it as much humidity as you can. Not frost hardy — bring it in before cold weather if it's summering outdoors.
Soil & Repotting
Rich, well-draining soil that holds moisture — good potting soil with compost and perlite. Fast growers fill pots quickly, so check the roots regularly and size up when needed.
Feeding
Feed regularly in the growing season, every couple of weeks with a balanced fertilizer. Fast growth takes fuel, and a well-fed Nono pinks up better than a hungry one.
Common Issues
- Pink sections crisping is usually too much harsh sun too fast, or dry air. Acclimate gradually and boost humidity.
- Brown leaf edges mean it's thirsty or the air is dry. Bananas are dramatic about water — keep up.
- Less pink on new growth can mean low light. Brighten it up.
- Like all bananas, older leaves shred and brown with age. Trim them off — it's cosmetic, not a crisis.
